Howie Machek was born with an innate athleticism that became apparent while he pursued little league baseball and basketball in his youth. It wasn't until the age of fourteen when he started working at Health Food Flannigan's in Palos Hills and he saw Pumping Iron that his love for personal fitness blossomed.
Remembering his first gym encounter Howie states, "I loved my first gym experience, it was a small dirty gym. It smelled like it looked. Working out for me was a great way to release stress. I became a gym rat." For the next four years Howie continued to work at the health food store and proceeded in the footsteps of his hero Arnold Schwarzenegger. Through hard work he built himself up to a solid 230lb frame. His physique enabled him to become an accomplished heavy weight wrestler at St. Lawrence High School. "I thought I was on the right track for physical fitness and well being," Howie recalls.
When Howie was seventeen he had a devastating blow that made him reexamine and contemplate his own beliefs. He found out that the people he had looked up to as pinnacles of health were using dangerous steroids to achieve success. "It was an epiphany for me that I was striving for a body type that was unachievable and unhealthy," Howie reflects. Changing his focus, Howie decided he wanted to have a healthy body rather than the Herculean Ideal. Over the next two years, through proper nutrition and exercise, Howie sculpted his body to shed the bulky muscle for a healthier leaner body that was best suited to his frame.
While achieving his best healthy body, Howie realized that this was his calling and enrolled in college to pursue a degree in exercise physiology. While working on his degree, Howie gained experience by working as an assistant personal trainer at Moraine Valley Community College . Following his graduation from Northern Illinois University in 2000, Howie successfully trained many people to help them achieve their best body from Olympic-bound athletes to the general population.
In 2001, while working as a certified personal trainer at two prestigious facilities, Howie decided to start his own in home personal training business. In 2008, Howie made a pivotal decision to find a permanent home for One Body Fitness at Overtime Gym in Naperville , IL . One Body Fitness is able to offer something extraordinarily unique: a private setting for personal training with over $200,000 in sophisticated state of the art equipment in a 900 sq ft facility for the client's sole use. "The facility is truly amazing. Because the gym is private it's only me and my client. There's no waiting for equipment and no distractions like you would get in a gym with this caliber of equipment," states Howie.
Howie currently resides in Plainfield , IL . When he is not busy training clients or working out, he enjoys spending time with family and friends.
Howie's professional qualifications include: Bachelor of Science Northern Illinois University in Exercise Physiology; American Council on Exercise, Certified Personal Trainer; Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist Member and American Council of Sports Medicine, Member.
Tami Moog is a certified personal trainer who brings expertise and enthusiasm to each and every session. Before working in the health and fitness industry, Tami enjoyed a career as a court reporter until carpal tunnel syndrome made it impossible for her to continue. Finding herself at a crossroads, Tami decided to do something daring and pursue her passion to become a certified personal trainer. By happenstance she was also training at One Body Fitness with Howie Machek. "Howie has such a passion for what he does and it shows. He is very professional yet compassionate. It has been the best experience I have ever had working out with a personal trainer. It is a privilege to find myself working with him at One Body Fitness as a personal trainer," states Tami.
"I want my clients to know that anything worth having is worth working for. Being healthy and feeling great takes work and it is my job to get you there," Tami states.
Tami understands personally the perils of those trying for the first time to get into shape and those who are trying to get back into shape. When she started training at One Body Fitness with Howie, her petite 5'2'' frame was carrying 155lbs. Through tough work and proper nutrition she now weighs in at a buff 125lb.
"Tami possesses great abilities both as a trainer and a human being. She is compassionate and dedicated to helping her clients achieve their goals. Tami is an excellent addition to One Body Fitness and I couldn't have wished for a better trainer to work with," states Howie.
Outside of One Body Fitness, Tami is a trainer at Edwards Health and Fitness and is an avid Volleyball player on both the indoor court and the sand. Currently Tami resides in Aurora with her husband.
Tammi's professional qualifications include: International Sports Sciences Association, Certified Fitness Trainer; National Academy of Sports Medicine , Certified Trainer and National Exercise Sports Trainers Association, Certified Trainer.
